LIBRARIAN'S DAY CELEBRATION AT KV NIT SILCHAR

 












National Librarians’ Day Celebration

Venue: KV NIT SILCHAR LIBRARY
Occasion: Inauguration of the National Librarians’ Day celebrations on Dr. S. R. Ranganathan’s 133rd birth anniversary (12 August)
Theme: Honoring the legacy and contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan with a special focus on reinvigorating reading habits among students

Event Highlights:

·         The ceremony commenced with a floral tribute to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, solemnly offered by:

o    Mrs. Kavita Giri, PGT (Mathematics)

o    Shri Prasenjit Saha, TGT (Arts)

o    Smt. Mausmi Banik, TGT (Bengali)

o    Sazida, Sanchari (Class 10)

o    Abhiroop (Class 12)

·         In his opening remarks, the librarian, Shri Nagesh Kumar Pandey, delivered a brief but poignant reflection on Dr. Ranganathan’s lifelong advocacy for accessible, user-centric libraries and his transformative “Five Laws of Library Science.”

·         Kumari Sakshi, student of Class 10, followed with an articulate speech detailing Dr. Ranganathan's seminal contributions—highlighting how his Five Laws and Colon Classification continue to shape modern library practices.
(Note: Ranganathan authored the Five Laws of Library Science in 1931 and developed the Colon Classification system in 1933, establishing a flexible and scientific framework for organizing information.)

·         Shri P. I. T. RajA, Deputy Commissioner of the KVS Silchar Region, also graced the gathering. In his thoughtful address, he underscored the value of reading and raised concerns about the decline of reading habits among students in the era of technology addicted society. He appealed to librarians and educators alike to proactively foster a culture of reading within school communities.

·         The event concluded with Mrs. Kavita Giri PGT Mathsmatics delivering the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants—students, teachers, guests—and reaffirming the collective commitment to nurturing stronger reading habits.
